Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Doula?

A Doula is a companion who supports a person during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum phase. Doulas are trained to provide continuous, one-on-one support. That comes in the form of information, physical support, and emotional support to a birthing person and their partner.

Doulas are not medical professionals and wont perform tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart monitoring.  I will never speak for you, make decisions on your behalf, or pressure you to do something because it aligns with my views. This is your baby and your birth. My role is to nurture and serve, no matter the choices you decide to make.

What is the evidence for a Doula supported birth?

Research shows that if a Mother has continuous support during labor, her and her baby are statistically more likely to have better outcomes.

  • 39% decrease in the risk of cesarean

  • 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth

  • 10% decrease in the use of any pain medication

  • Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average

  • 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with their birth experience

There is no evidence for negative consequences to continuous labor support.

What if I have support from my Partner? Do I still need a Doula?

Doulas do not replace the love and support you receive from your Partner. In fact, I am here to encourage and support them because they need it too! We will work together so that your needs are always being met without interruption, whatever that may look like.

Active duty military families and IVF pregnancies may receive a 15% discount off any birth support package.

What is your availability like?
